The British statesman Winston Churchill once pointed out that it was “always easier to prophesy after the event.” I usually try to follow the advice of someone like Churchill if possible. But with his comment in mind, I’m going to try to prophesy before the event. I’ve never been very good at this, but it’s always fun to try. So here’s my take on the four first round playoff series’. Doing it this way, I get to change my mind for the second round when all four of my picks get killed in the first round.
Philadelphia vs Cincinnati–I take Philly. I think they have both better pitching and hitting.
Atlanta vs San Francisco–I take Frisco. I don’t think either has particularly great hitting, so the better pitching team should prevail. That’s Frisco.
Tampa Bay vs Texas–I take Tampa. Better pitching goes to Tampa, except that Cliff Lee is better than any Tampa pitcher (but he’ll get 2 games at best and Texas needs 3 wins), and both teams can bash the ball.
New York vs Minnesota–neither team has played well recently and there’s something about this Yankees team that worries me, so I’m going to take the Twins, but wouldn’t be surprised if the Yanks win.
Now, let’s see if I do better than last year, which was to break 2 of 4.
So who ya got, team?

I posted mine at my blog. The only one I disagree with you on is the Yankees over the Twins. I hope you are right, though.
