Having spent the last several of these showing you Gene Mack’s 1940s cartoons of the existing Major League ballparks of the era, here’s the last four of the set, beginning with Forbes Field (above) and the other National League park (Crosley Field) below.

That leaves two final parks, the one in Cleveland

and finally the one in Detroit with its obligatory picture of Ty Cobb.

I trust you have enjoyed seeing these. Remember you can click on each to enlarge it enough to read. They are available at a number of places online. They are one of the true baseball treasures of the 1940s.

I made it to Forbes on its final weekend–what a place that was. Center field was such a prohibitive shot that they actually stored the batting cage on the field in deepest center.

    I loved every single one!

They are wonderful, aren’t they? Precious Sanders commented she’d like to see one of Kaufmann in KC. And someone else said they’d like to see the Polo Grounds updated for Mays’ 1954 catch. I’d love to see someone redo these today. Unfortunately, I can’t draw a crooked line, let alone a straight one.
